Avanti Fellows' own data, in Claude. For Avanti staff.
Ask a question about our students, programmes, results or fundraising in plain English. Claude finds the right tables, writes the SQL, runs it, and tells you which academic year the answer covers. No BigQuery account, nothing to install.
Do this on a computer - claude.ai in a browser, or the Claude desktop app. Connectors are set up there, not in the phone app. Which of the two routes below applies depends on whether your Claude account sits inside Avanti's workspace, not on which email address you use.
Most people. It is already added for the whole organisation, so there is nothing to paste.
Go to Settings → Connectors, find Avanti Data Assistant in the list, and click Connect. Sign in with your Avanti Google account and approve.
Start a new chat and ask "what can you see?". It will introduce itself, list what it has access to, and explain how to ask well.
Some of us are on a personal Pro or Max account rather than the Avanti workspace. The connector will not appear in your list, so you add it once yourself. You still sign in with your Avanti Google account - that is what grants access, not where the subscription sits. Custom connectors are not available on Free.
Settings → Connectors, then + Add custom connector. Paste the address above and click Add. Leave everything under Advanced settings empty - the server registers Claude automatically, so there is no client ID or secret to enter.
Click Connect, then sign in with your Avanti Google account. A personal Google account is refused at this step, which is the most common way this goes wrong.
New chat, "what can you see?", then a real question.
| Student data | Enrolment, attendance, test results, JEE and NEET outcomes, alumni |
| Public data | Admission cutoffs, college and school registries, national household surveys |
| Fundraising | Our funder pipeline and past applications, for the team that works on them |
| Writing | Avanti's house voice, cleared figures, and the slide master, so a draft starts on brand |
It only runs read-only queries, and only against tables the data team has documented. Ask it for an undocumented table and it will say so and stop rather than guess at the columns. That refusal is the feature - a plausible answer off the wrong table is worse than no answer.
Every query is logged against the Google account that ran it. Access is limited to Avanti accounts; anyone else is refused at sign-in.
